How to Use Social Media and Protect the Integrity of Elections
|UNESCO and the Global Network Initiative (GNI) are partnering in a colloquium to discuss the use of social media during electoral processes.
Issue: Does it strengthen the integrity and transparency of electoral processes or alter, or undermine the confidence in their outcome? The event will be held Thursday, 8 February 2018, in Paris, France.
To advance and share good practices, UNESCO and GNI see this colloquium as an opportunity to bring together a variety of stakeholders, representing civil society, electoral agencies, ICT companies, UN agencies, journalists, and academics.

UNESCO also envisages that the meeting will help assist UN electoral assistance providers with ideas on how to improve their electoral programs and activities.
Representatives of regional organizations that undertake election observation missions upon the request of their Member States will also be invited, and thus will benefit from discussing new digital challenges to electoral processes and systems.
