NATO Chalks Out Implementation Strategy for Digital Transformation

By 2030, NATO’s Digital Transformation will enable the Alliance to conduct multi-domain operations.

NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana addressed the Consultation, Command and Control Board (C3 Board) Spring Plenary meeting (23-24 May 2023), which approved the Implementation Strategy for NATO’s Digital Transformation.

In his remarks, Mr. Geoana emphasized the progress made since the Allied Defence Ministers approved the Digital Transformation Vision in 2022, in response to the 2022 Strategic Concept’s call to expedite the digital transformation of the Alliance.

By 2030, NATO’s Digital Transformation will enable the Alliance to conduct multi-domain operations, ensure interoperability across all domains, enhance situational awareness, and facilitate political consultation and data-driven decision-making.

To address these challenges, NATO’s C3 Board Principals provided direction and guidance for an Alliance Zero Trust Policy, noted the progress on the Data Exploitation Framework and exchanged views on cloud-adoption models – underlining the importance of all these interlinked work stands associated with digital transformation goals.

NATO’s C3 Board is the senior multinational policy body in the area of Consultation, Command and Control (C3), reporting to and advising the North Atlantic Council on all C3 policy matters. The next meeting of the C3 Board at Principals’ level will take place in Brussels in November 2023.
