Twitter owner Elon Musk launched an online poll* on December 16 to know if the Twitter accounts of journalists and other outfits that he had suspended should be restored.
During the past few days, Twitter – without any warning – had suspended the accounts of leading media organizations like CNN, the New York Times, and the Washington Post as well as some journalists.
Musk, who had acquired Twitter in October 2022 reluctantly after a court case, accused the journalists and their organizations of doxxing to suspend their accounts.
Dox is an informal verb that is described in the dictionary as “search for and publish private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the internet, typically with malicious intent.”

The Twitter boss claimed that the owners of suspended accounts tracked his private jet and endangered his family. When Musk was widely criticized for his despotic action against the freedom of speech, he launched the poll as a face-saving measure.
In loosely written language, Musk’s poll asked “Unsuspend accounts who doxxed my exact location in real-time” and declared on December 17 that nearly 4 million people voted in the poll.

In the poll result that Musk published on his Twitter account, he claimed that about 58 percent of respondents said the suspended accounts should be reinstated now while the others preferred the restoration in seven days.
Musk had launched a similar poll in November to know if the suspended account of the former U.S. President Donald Trump should be restored. Although the majority of the people in the poll said Trump’s account should be restored, Trump refused to join Twitter again.
