Now India Getting Ready to Become a Digital Economy
|The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other Indian politicians inaugurated a Digidhan Mela in Guwahati on Wednesday. The two-day event is being organized with an aim to enable citizens and merchants to familiarize and adopt real-time digital transactions.
On the occasion, Sonowal launched “Toka Paisa” e-wallet for initiative towards cashless economy. The Mela is being organized by the Government of Assam in collaboration with IT Department and NITI Aayog.
Speaking on the occasion, a minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that demonetization is a courageous decision taken by the Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi. The demonetization decision has been taken in the interest of the poorest of the poor in the country, he added.
PM Modi had demonetized currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 on November 8 with the belief that his decision will help check corruption in the country.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also said that the North East Region has taken steps in the direction of cashless transactions after the demonetization decision.
The tea garden labourers are very happy to get exact wages without any cut in their earnings and they are happy to adopt cashless economy, which will help to improve social behaviour as well as the economic management in the country, he said.
An adviser to NITI Aayog, Jitendra Kumar, said the cashless transactions improve our economy and make it stronger. The Digidhan Mela will help motivate the common man towards cashless transactions, he observed.
More than 100 stalls have been set up by various government departments, banks, mobile wallet operators, and other vendors at the Digidhan Mela. The stalls have been set up to educate people about the cashless transactions and to help them undertake digital transactions.
The state government also has organized an online contest to encourage the local community participation in the overall initiative on digital payment.
