Beware of Fake Copyright Website in India

The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) under India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry has discovered a fake copyright website.

The Department informed today that the website www.copyright.in is creating a false impression that it is the official website of the copyright registration office in India. The false website, according to DIPP, also is inviting applications for protection of various works, including literary, artistic, dramatic, musical, sound recording, and cinematographic films.

“This claim is totally fraudulent and creating confusion among general public,” DIPP said in a statement issued today, adding that DIPP and India’s Copyright Office have no relation with this website.

DIPP advises that consumers should not make any payment or submit application forms online or otherwise take any service relating to copyright registration or any other activity relating to copyright through this website. And DIPP or Copyright Office will not be responsible for any damages or loss in this regard.

According to DIPP, the authorised and authentic copyright office website is www.copyright.gov.in. For any copyright registration and other related issues on copyright, only this official website should be used.

The Department also informs that the matter has already been referred to the concerned government Ministries to block the fake website and initiate legal action.
